How To Play
Setup
Players set up stakes 15’ to 18’ feet apart, depending on ability.
In versions with rings, you then place a ring centering the stake within.
Game sets vary allowing for play ranging from 2-8 players.
Toss a coin to decide who throws first.
Gameplay
Posy’s are tossed toward the stake or ring from behind the stake,
Opponents alternate turns throwing within a round, with the player who scored the team with the most points in the previous round throwing first.
Scoring
Scoring varies depending on the game version.
With a ring: 1 point for a posy extending over the target circle. 2 points for the posy being fully within the circle. 3 points for a ringer.
Without a ring: 1 point for being closest to the pin, 2 points for the stake being between the petals, similar to a leaner. 3 points for a ringer.
Games are played to 21 or more, with cancellation scoring in effect. There is no bust rule.
History
Posy Pitch, which first hit the market in the 1960s (the version pictured is from the 1970s), was manufactured by Eagle Rubber Company of Ashland, Oregon. The game was also manufactured under the name Kent Sporting Goods, which was a subsidiary of Eagle Rubber Company. In 1971, both companies were purchased by the Brown Group.
